| I learned to use Flash as a prototyping platform during one of my favorite classes, Prototyping Usable Interfaces, taught by Assistant Professor Anind Dey. I used these skills to design an innovative new interface for improving the experience of spectators of horse racing, to best enable them to enjoy themselves, while commercially benefitting the track through increased betting and proprietary control of the essential media. I began this project by researching the basic psychology of racing spectatorship, reviewing the CHI literature and interviewing a subject matter expert. |
My research gave me the insight I needed to design a dynamic multimedia interface that gives the spectator total control over what they want to see, while also granting rich context awareness of other events. My Flash prototype, tested in repeated think-aloud usability studies, provides an intuitive series of these layouts, enabling satisfying viewing and betting for users at the track or at home.
