Computer Science Robots
The Nourbakhsh Laboratory is responsible for all manner of new and interesting efforts to promote successful incidences of human-robotic interaction.

One of these projects assists in teaching new and prospective computer science students by supplying programmable robots for their early coursework.

The standard Introduction to Computer Science course is an institution at high schools, colleges and universities, but declining enrollments, particularly among women, are threatening the field. By enhancing the learning experience at this early stage, enrollments may recover.
Our solution is to provide simple robots that can be programmed in Java using a well-made interface that abstracts away the difficulty of using robots, while leaving the student with full responsibility to code.

The result is a learner's "sandbox" with a level of feedback that is both compelling and fun. I provided the PhD student driving the project, Tom Lauwers, with course materials to help enhance the experience.
